Facebook mobile has over 100 million users and is growing faster than desktops. Morgan Stanley believes that more users will be connected to the Internet via mobile devices than desktop PCs within five years. Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha told Reuters that Android-powered mobile devices are selling faster than they can be manufactured. USA Today reported that InterContinental Hotels Group is testing new technology that allows guests to use their smartphones to unlock their hotel-room door. What does this all mean? The consumer is going mobile.

If you're not differentiating yourself by leveraging mobile technologies then you may be missing an opportunity. Imagine the on-the-go consumer that received their free Android-powered phone with their two-year contract looking for a local business. They come across two businesses: one that has a mobile-friendly website and one that does not. Who do you think they will choose? You may not be leaving a good impression by forcing viewers to pinch and scroll and navigate your website that was built for a 17" screen on their small devices. The consumer is tolerant right now but innovative businesses have an opportunity to stand out and offer their audience a unique user experience.

Businesses that utilize mobile opportunities such as mobile websites, iPhone/Android apps, text message marketing, and more have a chance to differentiate themselves, build consumer loyalty, increase marketing opportunities, and ultimately increase revenues. With more than 3 billion people around the world using mobile phones, mobile marketing is clearly an area that all marketers should embrace. Once you get started with a good mobile marketing plan, you’ll be hard-pressed to find an easier, less expensive, and more profitable way to immediately capture the attention of new and potential customers anywhere at any time.
